Our one-of-a-kind Adult Life Learning Programs are Unmatched in Arizona

Enhanced Quality of Life

Across Arizona, Civitan Foundation, Inc. provides high-quality programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities that promote opportunities for greater independence, inclusivity, and an enhanced quality of life. Since the founding of Camp Civitan, Civitan Foundation, Inc. has continually developed dynamic programs and services to meet the needs of our members and their families. Through our Adult Life Learning (DTA) programs and services, we’re providing specialized education, healthy living, life skills, socialization, job training, employment, and family support for the disability community.

Culinary & Nutrition

Civitan’s Culinary and Nutrition Instruction teaches our members about food preparation and safety, well-balanced meals, proper use of cooking utensils, developing recipes, and gardening.

Our hands-on format allows members to experience new tastes, while experimenting with different food combinations, and learning how to get around in the kitchen.

Digital Media

Digital Media engages our members with the different technologies we use in our daily lives. Members are taught computer safety, photography, learn to produce different forms of media, practice broadcasting and public speaking skills, learn about computer video editing, and interact with graphic design systems. We are encouraging our members to become self-sufficient in the digital age.

Movement & PE

Movement and Physical Education class helps our members improve  overall wellness. Daily classes include yoga, the martial arts, indoor and outdoor games, adaptive sports, exercise routines, and other physical activities. We adapt activities to our members needs in order to maximize participation, improve endurance, cardiovascular efficiency, balance, motor skills and body awareness.

Mindsong Music

Mindsong Music is a creative space for members to explore their musical passions. Learning to play different instruments, studying different types of music and poetry, practicing songwriting, and studying artists and musical genres are all part of Mindsong’s daily and weekly experiences.

Members also have opportunities to write, compose, and perform original music. Sky Skraper has come out of our Mindsong program.

Performance Theater

Theater teaches our members about the many different aspects of the performing arts. Members develop their ‘stage voice’, learn stage directions and production basics, as well as engage in theater games, ice-breakers and team building activities.

Learning to be confident in your own skin and self-advocating through self-expression are other key aspects of our Performance Theater program.

Visual Arts

Civitan’s Visual Arts classes engage our members in creating and working with a variety of mediums and modalities. These include sculpturing, designing, knitting, sewing, painting on canvas and glass, creating original pieces from reclaimed materials, producing shadow box story sets, and endless other creations to promote self-expression, exploration, and creativity. Members who have shown a passion for art as a career join our Art on the Edge social enterprise program.

A Parent's Perspective

In a heart-felt interview, Mom Dellashawn shares how Civitan has opened up opportunity for her child Staggers.

A Member Driven Program

Person-centric design is at our core, with programs being driven by what the members want. From clubs created and run by members, to their choice of volunteer activities and community outings, at Civitan, we celebrate independence of choice. Often our community is told “where to go” and “what to do,” but here, they get to pick. Our members have the opportunity to join the Member Advisory Board, a key group that meets with leadership to discuss what members feel is best for programming.

Our Programs Inspire
Career Passions

Civitan Foundation, Inc. celebrates fulfilling and meaningful job opportunities with a work-life balance for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We support our members in maximizing and matching their abilities, interests, and career goals to create sustainable pathways to employment.  From our wrap around services that are all inclusive, members have found their passion through the Adult Life Learning Program and transition into meaningful, gainful employment.
